SquishMark exists because I wanted to make a website out of Markdown files and nothing else. Write a post, push it, and it’s online. You don’t have to be a developer to use it. You’ll brush up against GitHub and a hosting service along the way, but the writing part stays as simple as editing a text file.
It started as a personal itch. I wanted a home of my own on the web: somewhere to track my projects as they evolve, and to talk about tech when I’ve got something to say. I also wanted it in Python, and everything I found was either too heavy or not simple enough to love. So I built it.
The name
SquishMark is named after my dog. Squish, Squishy to her friends, was a Pomeranian mix who was with me from 2013 to 2025: fiercely independent, and in love with every person she ever met. She was the catalyst for me and a few others to get dog parks built around here when we didn’t have a single one. Today we have two. That’s her at the top of every page.

This site runs on SquishMark itself, and every page here is a Markdown file in a public repo. If you want one of your own, the docs will get you there.
